How to Work in Affiliate Marketing Without Being an Affiliate

Hello, community! Certainly, not everyone can work in affiliate marketing. Even mastering the Facebook Ads Manager perfectly is possible, but not everyone actually wants to deal with it. But what should you do if you don’t want to work with complex ad settings, yet you still have enthusiasm to work in affiliate marketing? It’s simple — choose another specialization, because there are many of them in affiliate.

Today we’ll talk about how to work in affiliate marketing without directly running affiliate campaigns yourself. Before we begin, let us remind you that we already explained the difference between an affiliate and a targeting specialist. Recommended reading!

What professions exist in affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a complex and large-scale niche. That’s why many different specializations have formed here. However, all of them can be divided into two main categories:

  • Technical specializations;
  • Creative specializations.

The difficulty of working as a solo affiliate is that you must combine all these skills: understanding the technical aspects of ad networks and websites, being able to create creative and unusual ad campaigns to generate as much traffic as possible. And obviously, this is much harder than focusing on one direction.

And we haven’t even mentioned investments yet — because you need to pay for traffic, as well as for tools.

So based on this, we suggest reviewing which professions actually exist in affiliate marketing. Because if you don’t know how to configure a tracker but you’re great at designing, why should you give up on affiliate? You simply need to choose the right specialization.

Main technical specializations in affiliate marketing

Let’s get to the point. If you feel you have technical skills, consider the following specialization options in affiliate:

  1. Cloaker. A very complex job, but if you join an established team, you won’t need to spend money on the huge number of tools required. You’ll have to work not just with cloaking itself, but with trackers as well.
  2. Account farming. Buying, creating, and warming up accounts — this is mostly a technical job, but much easier to learn than cloaking. We do not undervalue farmers: they create the tools needed for scaling ad campaigns. The work requires attention, consistency, and the ability to handle lots of repetitive tasks. But many people actually enjoy this type of work.
  3. Developers and programmers. The industry needs not only websites but also mobile apps, applications, and PWA. Such specialists are in extremely high demand and can earn great money. But it requires real learning — basic online courses aren’t enough to compete with professionals.
  4. Webmaster in the broad sense. This includes not only website owners, but programmers and SEO specialists who help with promotion. Even creating landing pages is important in affiliate marketing and is more technical in nature. Designers can handle the graphics separately.

And now, on this note, we can smoothly move to creative professions.

What can creative people do in affiliate marketing?

Now let’s discuss jobs that require talent and creative thinking. This is no less important in affiliate marketing: to attract modern traffic, you must be good at creative work. Creative specializations in affiliate marketing include:

  1. Designer. A profession covering almost everything related to graphics: from small creatives for tests to full website and landing page design. Motion design is also very popular today — so there’s plenty of work.
  2. Copywriter. From writing ads to fully filling landing pages or portals. Despite the belief that ChatGPT replaces copywriters — this applies only to low-level specialists. People still pay for high-quality text.
  3. Video editor. More and more affiliates and advertisers are using TikTok, Shorts, and other video formats. Video is more relevant than ever. This applies not only to promotional videos, but also to attention-grabbing content that can later be redirected anywhere.

Although video editing can partly be considered technical, as working with software is not purely creative. But it’s impossible to create a good video without creative thinking.

Other specializations

It’s also worth mentioning a few roles that fall somewhere between both categories, but still allow you to enter affiliate marketing without investments or special skills:

  1. Client manager, lead generator. Especially relevant for OnlyFans offers, where the job involves communicating with guys willing to pay for a model’s intimate photos. But in reality, there are many more examples of this type of work.
  2. AI specialists. Yes, people who create content using neural networks and prompt engineering are sometimes considered a separate profession. And yes, such specialists DO earn money in affiliate marketing. But this is not as easy as it may seem.
