Hello, community! We work in a very dynamic field. And many affiliates have grown used to using artificial intelligence not only for work, but also simply to get some advice regarding a funnel.
Considering that every niche is unstable, AI cannot master them perfectly in real time. And when something like ChatGPT does not know or understand something, it does not admit it. Instead, it may produce an answer that is the result of its hallucinations.
And before we begin, we would like to remind you that we have already covered how to use AI to optimize ad campaigns. We also recommend checking it out!
What is meant by AI hallucinations?
The main problem with most modern generative neural networks is unpredictable results. No one fully controls them, which is why scenarios sometimes occur where your “AI assistant” can do more harm than good.
You have probably already seen plenty of memes about what this looks like. For example, when people ask for a recipe for pork wings, and AI seriously explains how to cook them. It is probably not worth reminding anyone that pigs do not fly. We are not talking about russian pig-dogs right now.
And these seemingly funny moments can seriously ruin the bigger picture when it comes to setting up business processes. And that is exactly what we do in affiliate marketing.
In general, four main types of AI hallucinations can be identified when it comes to generative neural networks:
- Fabrication. AI manipulates facts and misleads the user.
- Use of outdated information. This can be a serious problem if the chat is used when working with the most current topics. For example, news, IT, and affiliate marketing itself, which is constantly changing.
- Ignoring important information. Artificial intelligence may simply fail to mention something that could be crucial in the context of the discussion.
- Pure inventions. The most popular type of AI hallucination, mostly because it is so meme-worthy.
So this is the basic concept of how a neural network can mislead a user. This does not happen intentionally. It is simply how the script is set up: AI may generate results too quickly without fully understanding the issue. This is caused by the need to process a request as fast as possible, which is why the quality of answers suffers significantly.
Can only generative networks hallucinate?
In fact, there are quite a few examples of similar behavior. They are just no longer related to meme-worthy situations.
For example, today many moderation processes are being handed over to AI assistants. This helps free up resources, because artificial intelligence can sort quality content from content that potentially violates a platform’s terms.
In reality, though, even in this case things can spiral out of control. This happened, for example, with YouTube and its automated content review, which during the COVID period blocked even videos that in no way violated the platform’s rules.
And although YouTube video removals are generally not something abnormal, since this is standard practice, during that period twice as many videos were removed as usual. The company’s representatives themselves admitted the mistake, attributing it to errors in the AI algorithm.
So given that most ad networks also now rely on AI moderation, it would not be surprising at all if our ad campaigns also start getting blocked for no reason whatsoever. At the very least, we should be prepared for that.
How can all of this harm affiliate marketing?
Only those who rely on common sense and have high-quality, timely information make a profit. And no artificial intelligence is capable of guaranteeing that. At least not yet.
Sometimes ChatGPT does more harm than good. And that is something worth taking into account. Especially when you are searching for or verifying important information on which your entire funnel depends.
There is also a risk of “side effects.” A good example is failed moderation caused by the fact that AI moderation is sometimes not very objective. In particular, this creates opportunities for competitors who can get your content removed through complaints. This is because algorithms are designed in such a way that when a bot sees a large number of reports, it may block content even if that content has not violated anything at all.
And what is your take on AI hallucinations? Do you see them as nothing more than meme material, or do you still see real risks for affiliates? Share your thoughts in our Telegram community, where we discuss the most important topics from the world of affiliate marketing!
