Welcome, community! Traffic from messengers is a relatively new source of leads that is still actively being explored by affiliates. Today, we’ll discuss why you should consider messengers as a source for your projects, how it all works, and answer the question of whether this traffic can be considered relatively cost-free.
Before we start, we recommend checking out our comprehensive review on paid traffic and free traffic. There, we delve into the differences between them, their advantages, and disadvantages.
What is Messenger Marketing?
Messenger marketing is the promotion and advertisement of a product or service through Telegram, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, or, heaven forbid, Viber. The principle is similar to email marketing: you send an offer directly to a person, or automate the process using bots, and you get traffic.
However, modern messengers have significantly advanced in many aspects and now offer users an even wider range of tools. For example, you can create your own channels and communities and drive traffic from there. In this regard, messengers resemble social networks more.
Unlike the aforementioned email marketing, promotion through messengers has the following advantages:
- Engagement is much higher because people use messengers more actively than they check their email inboxes. Additionally, email clients often send any promotional offers to “Spam” or, at best, to “Promotions,” where they can easily get lost;
- It fosters a more loyal tone of communication, as you can interact with the traffic directly, answer their questions, etc. With email, communication is mostly one-way, which doesn’t allow for building a strong connection;
- Most affiliates use chatbots to more effectively drive traffic from messengers. Bots allow automating most processes: answering user questions, generating creatives, gathering statistics, etc.
So, we are dealing with a platform that already offers many convenient tools to work with the audience. You can communicate directly with potential clients, engage people in your channels, create entire networks of channels for specific demands, buy ads on popular channels, or use the messenger’s own advertising tools, and more. The possibilities are numerous.
Key Tools for Effective Messenger Promotion
Now, let’s talk in more detail about these tools. Some messengers offer ready-made solutions, while in other cases, you’ll need to do some work yourself to implement these solutions.
For example, when it comes to chatbots. You can create one yourself, using Python, for instance. Or you can outsource this process or use specific constructors that allow you to create bots even if you don’t have programming skills. A chatbot is a key tool for automating your projects within a messenger, handling many tasks: from constantly reminding users of your existence to conducting contests and giveaways to further retain the audience.
You also need to master platforms that handle automatic post publishing and allow you to organize advertising offers via your contact base. You’ll need to work on segmenting the traffic to improve its quality.
And of course, analytics. Facebook offers its own solutions that make it easy to gather a large amount of statistical and analytical data on the effectiveness of your work within the messenger. In other cases, you may need to look for third-party solutions or purchase premium subscriptions or create business accounts to simplify the process of collecting necessary statistics.
Which Verticals are Best for Driving Traffic?
There are some verticals that convert best through messengers. The first that comes to mind is HR. Many people look for jobs through messengers, and you can work through already established and popular communities in specific cities, countries, or industries. Sometimes posting will cost money, and sometimes it’s completely free, especially in a chat group.
Financial offers also show high conversion rates. This is largely because you can delegate almost the entire credit application process to a chatbot, allowing you to focus on attracting the audience while the conversion is handled by machine code.
Lastly, there’s iGaming. Here, bots are often used to hold free spin giveaways and other bonuses in casinos or even sportsbooks. There are also thematic channels with predictions for various sporting events, where users are encouraged to place bets by clicking on a referral link. This is a near-classic setup.
You can experiment with other verticals as well. But these show the highest conversion rates, and overall, they are the most convenient to work with.
Advantages of Driving Traffic from Messengers
Working with traffic through messengers is extremely convenient because you can:
- Receive instant feedback and establish quick communication with a lead directly (if necessary);
- Save your budget. Messenger traffic is UBT. You can avoid paying for leads if you build the right strategy: from proper community naming to creating a network of channels that can capture as much traffic as possible through search alone;
- Automate most processes by delegating your tasks to a chatbot;
- Get a large amount of traffic since messenger reach is vast (about 5 billion people use some form of messenger, according to Statista).
Admittedly, you can’t set up targeting here. But you can create your own customer base that you’ll work with over a long period.
Is Messenger Traffic UBT?
Can you get traffic from a messenger for free or for minimal cost? Yes, definitely. For example, the search feature in Telegram, which is used by most Ukrainian messenger users, according to an AIN.UA survey, provides recommendations based on keywords. If you optimize your channel for specific queries, you increase the likelihood of receiving free traffic.
Another case is creating a network of channels for dozens of similar queries to increase the chances of getting traffic.
There are also specific chats where you can post promotional messages for free, or even spam them. This method works well with HR offers: find communities where people are looking for jobs, offer them work = profit (on paper). Yes, you’ll get low-quality traffic, but that’s what UBT is for.
