Welcome, dear community! Today we’re reviewing another traffic source, one that’s not particularly popular here in Ukraine. However, the resource we’re discussing is extremely popular among Western users, which is a solid reason not to ignore it.

As you’ve guessed from the title, today we’ll talk about Pinterest. If you’re interested in other unconventional traffic sources, we recommend checking out our detailed review of Discord.

What is Pinterest?

Many people view Pinterest with a certain disdain, considering it a less developed social network. However, these platforms are fundamentally different, both in terms of functionality and target audience.

Pinterest is less of a social network and more of a hosting platform where users can share images and videos. It offers tools like boards, which act as folders for content on specific topics. The images or posts themselves are referred to as “pins.”

Regarding traffic, according to Statista, Pinterest boasts 518 million active users per month, which is 20 million more than in the previous quarter. This indicates that the platform’s audience is growing.

Of these 518 million users, 30.7% come from the United States.

Another interesting fact is the gender distribution of users. According to the same statistics, almost 70% of Pinterest users are women.

In summary, we have a platform where the content is visual, the majority of traffic consists of women, and from a geographic perspective, there’s a significant amount of traffic from Tier-1 countries. With over half a billion visitors per month, this is clearly a traffic source worth paying attention to.

How to Drive Traffic from Pinterest?

Pinterest traffic is suitable for working with many verticals. However, it’s most effective for e-commerce. Many people use the platform to find accessories, home furniture, and similar items. If an appealing photo includes a link to a store, the chances of conversion are quite good.

Moreover, Pinterest creates an environment conducive to running your own business. You can set up a free business account, which can be branded to increase trust in your profile. Additionally, you’ll gain access to advertising tools to promote your content for a fee.

But! If you want a business account, you’ll also need your own website linked to your Pinterest page. This is essential for creating an effective traffic funnel. Driving traffic to an offer through your website is simpler and more efficient, reducing the risk of your campaign being shut down because your profile gets banned for linking to third-party services.

Our main goal is to post content regularly, making it as unique as possible using AI or designers’ help. Pay attention to descriptions and tags. Each post should link to an article on your website with a referral link to the offer. If the website content matches the post’s theme and the user consciously clicks the link, the conversion rate will likely be high.

To avoid gaps between publications, consider using scheduling tools that allow you to queue up to 30 pins at once. These tools also support cross-posting: a pin is published on Pinterest and automatically reposted to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

This approach enables you to schedule posts during peak times when the platform sees the most activity. In Pacific Time, this is around 8–11 AM.

Advantages of Promoting Offers Through Pinterest

Driving traffic exclusively from Pinterest might not be the best idea. However, this traffic should not be overlooked. Even 3–4 leads generated with minimal investment, mainly time, can be a decent result.

Pinterest is ideal for offers with a long lifecycle, such as e-commerce, because:

  1. Your pins are indexed by search engines, creating a stream of free organic traffic to your pin over time;
  2. Pins have a long lifespan in terms of visibility, remaining relevant and highly positioned even a year after publication if the content is still current;
  3. Pinterest avoids making hasty changes during updates, so you won’t wake up to an entirely different platform, as can happen with Instagram;
  4. Pinterest is perfect for e-commerce because your pins are likely to be discovered by users actively searching for products you promote.

Overall, working with Pinterest is a pleasant experience. The audience is loyal and won’t criticize your pins for including links. While using your own website for the funnel entails additional costs, not everyone can afford it on a tight budget.

However, having your own site also allows you to simultaneously gain organic traffic through SEO. In the long run, the Pinterest + website combination can become self-sustaining, generating passive income.

Conclusion

Pinterest is an excellent traffic source with all the tools needed for effective marketing. Instagram users may need time to adapt to the interface, boards, and algorithms. However, one pin can ultimately generate more traffic than an entire Instagram ad campaign—under ideal circumstances, of course.
