Hello, community! Sometimes it feels like the golden era of email marketing is long gone. However, this is a misconception shaped by myths that have nothing to do with reality. Today, we’ll try to debunk those myths in our review.

Does this mean you should drop everything and start driving traffic through email campaigns? Definitely not. But it’s also true that this tool shouldn’t be ignored. Let’s explore it step by step.

We remind you that we always share insights about both forgotten and new traffic sources that have yet to become mainstream. For instance, we recommend checking out our review of Discord as a new traffic source that is often overlooked.

What is Email Marketing?

Email marketing is a method of promoting offers through emails sent to a target audience. With a “white-hat” approach, your emails are sent exclusively to people who have explicitly opted in: they consented to receive newsletters, voluntarily provided their contact details, etc.

If you are sending mass emails to addresses bought as part of a ready-made database, this is simply spam and has little to do with genuine email marketing.

When considering the prospects and relevance of email marketing as a method of promoting offers, just take a look at your email client. Separate folders for promotional offers have existed for a long time. In Google’s case, this folder has even evolved to include features like countdown timers showing how long a promotion lasts. Clearly, email marketing is still evolving and shouldn’t be ignored.

But we’re here today to find out why some people think email campaigns no longer convert traffic. In our opinion, the culprits are myths, which we’ll try not only to examine but also to debunk wherever possible.

1. All Mailings Are Inherently Spam

There’s not much to discuss here because any promotional method can be turned into spam. Run the same ad from a thousand Facebook accounts, and that’s spam too.

However, creating spam email campaigns is much easier since finding ready-made address databases is no longer a problem, and mass email software is readily available.

That said, proper email marketing involves clients willingly agreeing to receive offers from you. In this case, there’s no question of spam, and you can continue presenting offers to your leads until they unsubscribe from your emails.

2. Mailings Don’t Work; It’s an Archaic Marketing Method; Nobody Reads Emails

The idea that email marketing is outdated is quite widespread. However, we approach this topic rationally, relying solely on facts.

According to Statista, which we turn to for accurate data, email marketing revenue in 2024 is projected to reach $9.5 billion. Moreover, the ROI from such campaigns is so high that few other traffic channels can compete with email marketing in terms of profitability.

The main reason for these numbers is the vast number of email users—over 4 billion and growing.

Regarding email open rates, 30% of marketers report that 10–20% of their emails are read. Over 57% of marketers observe even better results, with 20–50% of emails being opened.

So, is email marketing outdated? If it’s still effective and the numbers say so, then no. It remains relevant.

Quality Email Marketing Is Complicated and Expensive

This isn’t entirely clear-cut and definitely warrants discussion.

What makes email campaigns convert? First, recipients should expect your email, ensuring you’re targeting the right audience and not just random people.

Next, the success of your campaign depends on factors such as the design of the email, the quality of the text, and the uniqueness and relevance of your offer to the recipient. In short, many elements influence the success of a conversion.

This leads to the belief that creating a quality email is expensive. You might need a web designer (possibly a full frontend developer to include a fully functional web interface in the email), a top-notch copywriter for compelling text, and software to send the emails efficiently.

But let’s remember that it’s no longer the early 2000s. Many of these tasks can now be automated using AI, which we frequently discuss. With the right approach, you can create emails at minimal cost, achieving the high ROI mentioned by Statista.

Conclusion

Email marketing is a classic method of promotion and sales that shouldn’t be ignored, even today. While building a subscriber base can take considerable time, the low cost of running email campaigns compensates for this. The cheaper the campaign, the higher your profit.
