Digital Nomads 2026: Digital Nomad Visa, Top Countries, and Financial Apps for Remote Workers

Hello, community! High technologies have given us plenty of opportunities. One of them is the ability to work almost from bed, without being tied to a physical workplace. For some, it is just an option. For others, it is a lifestyle. Today, such people are called digital nomads. Who they are and how they live — we explain here.

We will also talk about one of the best payment tools on the market, which allows you to use cryptocurrency to buy coffee or a new device. The most attentive readers have already guessed that we are talking about Trustee Plus. By the way, you can also check out our separate review of the app. Highly recommended!

Who are digital nomads?

Digital nomads are people who are not physically tied to a workplace. They mostly work online while traveling around the world.

Remote work today does not require a large number of tools. A laptop is usually enough, and sometimes even a smartphone will do.

It is important to understand that being a digital nomad is not about a profession. It is about a lifestyle — an interesting one, full of travel and bright moments.

However, it is not as easy as it may seem at first glance. So let’s also talk about how you can radically change your life so that a coffee shop anywhere in the world can become your office.

Can you become a digital nomad?

Although the digital nomad lifestyle is often romanticized, there are plenty of potential challenges along the way. First of all, a person has to be ready for it. The key requirements here are:

  1. Tools. A reliable laptop and smartphone that will not let you down at the worst possible moment. Of course, their performance should be enough for your work. So buying a budget laptop and moving to Moldova is not quite digital nomadism yet. Although it is close.
  2. Mindset. You need to be stress-resistant, because traveling often comes with related difficulties. Flight delays, visa and document issues, constant searching for accommodation. You need to learn to treat all of this as part of your new lifestyle.
  3. Discipline. If you have to choose between visiting the Louvre and finishing a task with a deadline that is about to burn, you need to know how to set priorities correctly.

But you also need to prepare financially. And we are not talking only about savings, which will definitely be useful in the early stages. We are also talking about payment tools that will not let you down, no matter where you are. This is where Trustee Plus is worth mentioning.

Can an affiliate be a digital nomad?

Absolutely, yes. Moreover, affiliate marketing is one of the best ways to gain not only financial freedom, but also the ability to travel and generate profit from anywhere in the world.

Modern affiliate marketing does not tie you to an office. You can launch ads even while lying in bed. All you need is a laptop.

Yes, working in a team imposes slightly more obligations on affiliates. Sometimes you need to spend time in a CRM, sometimes you need to show up on time for a meeting. But even abroad, all of this can still be managed.

The main thing is to legalize your income. Through contracts with advertisers, for example. Otherwise, you will not be able to obtain a residence permit or visa. And this is worth discussing in a little more detail.

How to get a visa?

At the moment, this issue is somewhat easier for Ukrainian citizens than it used to be. If it can be called that, of course. Due to the war with country 404, Ukrainians can receive temporary protection in most European countries. This allows them to become EU residents, including for tax purposes.

The conditions of stay depend on each country. For example, in the Czech Republic, a refugee visa allows you to open your own sole proprietorship and work for yourself. The tax conditions are highly favorable and are not very different from how self-employment works in Ukraine.

Some countries have separate visa types for digital nomads. They are called Digital Nomad Visas. One of them is available in Spain.

It allows you to legalize your stay in the EU. But to obtain it, your monthly income must be €2,600 per month. The country also offers a reduced tax rate of around 23%.

In Croatia, there is no income tax on earnings received from another country. However, it is harder to legalize your stay in the long term, because the nomad visa does not lead to long-term residence. A similar situation exists in the UAE. There, you also do not need to pay tax on income received from third countries.

To obtain a visa, you need to:

  1. Have a legal basis. In other words, you must prove that you have clients abroad, that you work, and therefore can call yourself a digital nomad.
  2. Have an income of €1,500–3,500 per month, depending on the country where you plan to apply for the visa.
  3. Have insurance.
  4. Sometimes, provide a certificate of no criminal record.

You can submit documents online or through a consulate. Applications are reviewed within a few weeks. After approval, you can travel to the country and receive a residence permit there.

Top 5 countries for digital nomads

We have already briefly mentioned some countries, but let’s still summarize everything through our personal TOP list.

Portugal

A wonderful country by the ocean! What could be better? Perhaps only the opportunity to apply for a special visa designed specifically for digital nomads!

Housing outside Lisbon is relatively affordable. Although lately, even here prices have been rising. The quality of life is high.

The visa requirement is an income of around €3,000 per month. You need proof of employment — a contract or freelance confirmation. You also need to open a bank account in advance and rent accommodation, or have an invitation from a property owner. Health insurance is a must-have.

The visa is valid for 1 year. It can be extended in the future. It also leads to residency.

Spain

A truly great country with a unique lifestyle and culture. Many places are adapted for co-working.

Nomads can obtain a Digital Nomad Visa. It is valid for up to three years with the possibility of extension.

To obtain it, you need to have a confirmed income of €2,500–3,000. At the same time, income from Spanish sources must not exceed 20%. Higher education is required. As an alternative, 3+ years of work experience may be accepted.

You also need at least 3 months of cooperation with a company or clients, insurance, and a certificate of no criminal record.

Thailand

A vibrant country with relatively low expenses. You can secure a comfortable standard of living here. Besides, Thailand has long had its own established nomad community.

Digital nomads can consider the Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa. This permit is issued for up to 10 years. However, the requirements are quite high: an income of around $80,000 per year, or less for certain categories. You also need to officially work for an international company and have 5+ years of work experience. Health insurance is also required.

In general, a tourist visa can also be considered. However, it comes with a number of limitations.

Mexico

A country with a rich culture. Prices are low, especially for housing. And the immigration process is as simple as possible.

Mexico offers a temporary resident visa. To obtain it, you need to have a monthly income of around $2,500. Alternatively, you need to have $40,000 in savings. Bank statements for the last 6–12 months are also required to confirm income. You do not need to work for a local employer.

The visa is valid for 1 year. But it can be extended for up to 4 years.

Indonesia

Of course, most people immediately think of Bali. It is one of the most beautiful corners of the world. However, there are also less expensive cities where you can live with just as much comfort.

Nomads can consider the B211A visa. For this, you need a local sponsor or agent. Income is not always checked. Working for Indonesian companies is prohibited.

There is also a planned Digital Nomad Visa with tax benefits. However, it already comes with income requirements — $60,000 per year.

The visa is valid for 6–12 months. It can be extended.

Financial tools for nomads

When traveling, it is important not only to earn money, but also to be able to use it. Without that, you cannot even buy coffee. That is why it is important to have several apps that simplify this process.

1. Wise

An ideal option for international transfers. Opening an account is extremely simple. And given the popularity of this tool, you can receive payments directly to Wise.

The main feature of this payment service is support for more than 50 different fiat currencies. So if you plan to work with clients from different parts of the world, this is definitely your choice.

2. Binance

One of the most trusted crypto exchanges, operating worldwide. This option allows you to conveniently accept payments in cryptocurrency. After all, the exchange supports almost all relevant tokens.

To use Binance to the fullest, you only need to register and pass KYC verification. The limits are huge. There is also an option to allocate tokens to staking, so your money can generate even more profit.

Investments, airdrops, simple holding — all of this is available in one app.

3. Trustee Plus

And if you want to spend cryptocurrency as conveniently as fiat money, Trustee Plus is worth your attention. It is one of the best payment tools on the market and already helps many digital nomads around the world.

What is Trustee Plus?

Trustee Plus is a cryptocurrency wallet that allows fast exchange, crypto withdrawals, and wallet top-ups with 0% fees. It is a Ukrainian app that has already become known worldwide.

The main feature of the wallet is the Trustee card. It is issued in the United Kingdom and allows you to turn your cryptocurrency into a primary payment method. Here is how it works:

  1. The user downloads the app and registers.
  2. Orders a card and links it to Apple Pay or Google Pay.
  3. The card converts cryptocurrency during payment, allowing you to buy almost anything with USDT.

In other words, you will not need to exchange funds through P2P or withdraw crypto to a card in some other way, losing money on fees and unfair exchange rates.

Moreover, no transaction fees are charged during payments. This means you can use your digital assets with maximum benefit.

In terms of convenience, the Trustee card is almost no different from “traditional” bank cards. Users can pay for goods via terminals or online. And the $30,000 limit is enough for a life without compromises.

Currently, the Trustee card is accepted by more than 60 million merchants worldwide. This makes it an ideal solution for digital nomads, wherever they may end up.

How to start using Trustee Plus?

Trustee works very, very simply. To get started, the user needs to:

  1. Go to the App Store or Google Play Market.
  2. Find the Trustee Plus app through search.
  3. Install it on their smartphone.

Next, you need to complete registration. A mobile phone number is enough for this. Verification is mandatory, because without it, you will not be able to issue your own card.

Speaking of the card, it costs only $10. This amount must be available on your balance. You can top up your account using another cryptocurrency:

  1. Go to the “Receive” section.
  2. Choose the desired token and the method of receiving it: from another app user, via wallet address, through exchange, P2P, or by topping up from a subaccount.

If you use something like Binance, the best option is to receive crypto to your wallet address. Choose the BNB Chain network to avoid paying a high transfer fee.

Once the account is topped up, you can issue the card. Follow these steps:

  1. Tap “Get a card” on the main page.
  2. Read the terms of use and confirm that you agree with them.
  3. After that, you can issue your own card.

Once it is ready, you can easily link it to Apple Pay or Google Pay. The process is similar to adding your regular bank card.

But to spend money, you need to top up your crypto card. To do this, open it and select “Top up”. Choose which asset will be used for the deposit. In about 5 minutes, the money will be ready to spend!

On what? That depends on your personal preferences. But a tasty lunch in any capital of the world paid for with crypto is the best motivator. The main thing is moderation.

This is where the main advantage of the app lies: the process from registration to issuing your own card and topping it up takes literally minutes. After that, you can go and spend money on whatever you need.

At the same time, let’s not forget about zero fees and fair exchange rates. In other words, you will not have to lose money on unfair exchanges, as often happens when selling crypto via P2P.
